My Tip of the Week: Helpful Ways To Keep Your PTO Energized

This morning, we welcomed around 800 PTO and PTA volunteers to our Chicago Expo. It was the first of 14 Expos we're hosting around the country over the next 3 months.

Every time we host one of these events, I'm reminded of the amazing energy that comes from parent group volunteers. My question for you this week: Do the parents at your school feel that energy? Or have things gone to a sort of tired, routine place? If it's the latter, you're going to have a heck of a time recruiting new volunteers and putting on great events.

Finding a way to keep the energy up and keep things fresh is a key for connecting with your parents each year. Perhaps it's switching your events from year to year or finding a highly visible way to make the same event feel fresh. You might even need to spend money to bring your events to a higher level. (Yes, pay for the really fun DJ instead of using your treasurer's husband's CD collection!) Either way, focusing on keeping things fresh is a key tactic in keeping new blood flowing into your group.
