Recycling Cans for Cash

REX BOHN

12/16/2015

“One committee that we started is called Cans4Kids. This program collects aluminum cans, recycles them, [and] collects money that pays for a goal set up between the principal and the PTO. The program is simple. Volunteers sign up to be ‘drop spots’ in their neighborhoods. Families drop off their empty, rinsed out, and preferably squished cans at the drop spot of their choice. Once a month, the cans are turned in to a local recycling center and cash is paid by the pound.”

Mary Elliott, Kaneland John Shields Elementary PTO, Sugar Grove, Ill.
