Question: membership

We only have 6-weeks of school left and we are planning to change officers, I was wondering if this is ok, we have a parent who wants to pay for membership just to vote on an officer, I really don't think that is right.

With all due respect, it doesn't matter what you think, what do your bylaws state? Follow the rules, that's what they are there for.

Firefighter makes a good point. I know it might not feel right, but if there are no specifics about this in your bylaws, then folks certainly can join at whatever point in time. There could even be a positive outcome here. If they really want to join (even if you suspect it is only to cast a vote) maybe they'll stick around for a little bit. Ask them to help out with something. Give them a job if they're up for it. Wouldn't it be interesting if they ended up being a great addition to your group?
