Question: Fundraising event

I have a question regarding the bylaws of PTO. We are a 501(c)3 corporation. We have a 6th grade fundraising group that raises money for only the 6th. In years past, the 6th grade as acted independently to the PTO they raise funds for the 6th grade by donations only by 6th grade parents. First question - can the 6th grade team function independently (financially speaking) or do the funds need to be put into the PTO (master) fund system. 2. This year they are trying to raise funds from the whole school to benefit 6th grade. Should they still operate independently or fall under the PTO umbrella.

The 6th grade could function independently, but then I think they'd need to incorporate and file for their own 501(c)(3) status.

Hi there,
Is the 6h grade the graduating class? How much fundraising is done on its behalf? It's possible to create a line item in our budget for 6th grade graduation/celebration. You could also ask 6th grade parents to send in donations. But your question suggests there's a bigger fundraising need for 6th graders?
