Family Movie Nights

I love the idea of making the admission price a BoxTop! Gave me another one--you could make the price of admission a canned good, then donate to the local food pantry. Would be perfect to do towards the end of the school year when food banks typically start running low.

We've been kicking around the idea of doing a movie night just as a family fun night, not a fundraiser. Since we're a new school, would love any and all help.

In our area, the local cable company just sponsored a week long outdoor movie series, and they showed the movies on a big inflatable screen. My family went one night, and it was fantastic--reminded me of the old drive-ins that are so scarce now. One thing I would like included in the resource materials is how to go about renting something like that (as well as indoor big screens). Of course, bad weather is always a potential problem with something like that, but we have the field space to do it, and a family picnic/movie night would be a blast!

For Skimom - What great ideas for Movie Night!! Thank you for sharing. We are hoping to have at least one in the Fall and one in the Spring. I am going to use your idea of using a theme from the movie for food, or prizes.

Thanks again

HI ALL,

I RECEIVED AN E-MAIL FROM TIM AT THE END OF JUNE/ BEGINING OF JULY ABOUT THESE FAMILY MOVIE NIGHTS /SCHOOL FAMILY NIGHTS. WHICH SAID MORE INFO WOULD BE COMMING IN A FEW WEEKS. I STILL HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING BUT I AM SURE WHEN HE GETS IT WE WILL TO. I AM QUITE INTERESTED IN THE INFO BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT COPYRIGHT LAWS, LISCENCES, AND IF YOU CHARGE MONEY FOR THE MOVIE VS THE FOOD WHICH IS LEGAL OR NOT.

PLEASE TIM WHEN IT'S READY LET US ALL KNOW RIGHT AWAY. WE ARE ALL AWAITING YOUR E-MAIL.

We started having Movie Nights last year. The principle said they had to be "G" rated movies only. We are a Grade 1-6 school so we alternated the types of movies so that the younger and older kids would get to see a movie more appropriate to their age. The first movie we played was "The Rookie". We didn't charge admission but asked for a donation of a food item for our towns Kitchen Pantry as admission. We also sold popcorn, candy and soda. We had a raffle before the movie of baseball items (balls, pennants, etc)and the cost of a raffle ticket was a "Box tops for education" coupon (we collected quite a few). We also had the mascot from our local minor league park come before the movie and sign posters, etc. (He was for free) We had the kids sit on blankets and pillow in the front of the cafeteria and the parents had to sit in a marked off area in the rear with their chairs so that everyone could see. We hooled up the video
player to an LCD projector and our sound sustem and it was just like at the movies. Everyone had a great time. The next movie night featured "Monster's Inc." which went over well. This year I plan on showing "Snow Dogs" and selling snow cones before the movie. These Family Nights weren't meant as fundraisers--we just wanted everyuone to get together and have a good time.

our school did this as part of demerit free activities. we had separate movies for the young and older kids. we also sent home permission slips before so that the parents could make the decision if they wanted their kids to see the movie or not.

i think it would be great if you put together a how to.

This is something we have been tring to do for awhile now with your help we might pull it off. We would like to do a few nights with different type movies. We would include the movie name and rating in tthe fkliers and let the parents decide if the movie is okay for there family. We are also playing with the idea of doing one outside in June. It would be asit-in movie as oppose to a drive-in. balnkets would be allowed up front chairs to the back. The admission fee would be enough to cover the movie and any rentals we may need.
