Cost of movie license

Do any of you have the license to show movies outdoors? Our school doesn't have a gym or even a big enough cafeteria to show movies inside and i noticed from Shwank Lic. that we have to apply for a license thru their "Park & Recreation" licensing department. Thanks!

You have to get a license if you show the movie in any public place. They are for private home use only. Anywhere else you need a license.

One of the terms of the license is that you cannot charge admission. I don't know of any movies you can show without a license; the license from movlic.com covers most, but not all of the major studios.

We show ours in the cafeteria, where we have a big drop down screen, using a projector, and we hooked up two sets of speakers. Others have made screens out of fabric and shown them in the gym, as an example.

I'm curious where you show your movies and what you use to show them.

I know I've seen somewhere else but are you charging your families to watch the movie or is it free & you sell popcorn, candy & sodas like at a real movie?

Go to www.movlic.com; you'll find the info there. You can buy either a one time showing or an annual license; they don't need much advance notice at all, but I'd say at least a week would be good.
