Luv - If you seriosuly feel you are having some sleeping problems talk to your doctor. Sleeping problems mixed with stress are very common and can really mess with your well-being. I know some people are concerned about sleeping aides; I haven't found it to be a problem for me. To be honest I would rather admit I have a sleeping problem & get the help than be *itchy for an unreasonable amount of time. That's a whole 'nother problem I don't need in my life right now.
CC - congrads to your son! It takes a strong person to standup and state what he/she feels. Good for him. Of course he comes from good stock so he's got that going for him.
DLF - what a wonderful opportunity to enrich the school community through such and ordeal. We need more of this everywhere.

CC, good for your son for standing up for himself. I'd keep an eye on that teacher too. Sounds like he may have taken on the class just for some extra $$, not so he could actually TEACH the kids something. My daughter's middle school has a self paced program that is supposed to work on reading skills. She took the pretest and aced it, so they gave her the post test, aced it. The teacher decided to let her do the math unit instead. He told her no one tests out of it. Thank goodness he isn't just forcing her to do stuff she already knows. Maybe your son could tutor the other kids.

d, what a lovely, lovely tribute and lasting memorial to this young man. You are amazing. Shorty told me once, when he switched from picture books to chapter books, that he can tell a good author if there aren't any pictures but he can still see it. That's what it feels like to read your stories. I can still see it.

Just got back from such a lovely ceremony for a student we lost last year. His parents took his memorial fund and bought the playground some new equipment. I'd been working hard with the APrincipal on the ceremony and with his changes it went off without a hitch. The piece of equipment was a climbing structure that looked almost like angels wings....and we tied balloons to it and had a ribbon cutting ceremony...then Luke's older brother climbed up the structure and cut the balloons that were tethered there and at the same time each teacher (the whole school was out there) released a balloon so all 70ish balloons went soaring into the sky and all 700 children held up their bobcat faces they'd drawn and watched the balloons sail off. It was lightly snowing but the sun was peaking through...and the APrincipal had a piece of granite engraved that said Playing in memory of Luke...
Then the PTO had refreshments for the family. It was really really special, very upbeat as we made it a "thank you" ceremony so we could keep it in a positive frame.

It's amazing how much work these 10 minute things take and how wonderful it feels when they all come together....

Lu! Welcome back!!! Tim's been redecorating. Like it?

OK, I think I did the right thing. Hubby gave the same answer which is good when it's the 13 year old son asking the question.... Shorty had his first test in Computer Essentials last week. It's a required course this semester. One of the questions on the test was "What is the brains of the computer?" Shorty wrote, "The CPU, also known as the Central Processing Unit." When the test was graded and handed back, he saw that the teacher checked it wrong and took off one point. So, he got a 49 out of 50 for the test. He asked the teacher why he got it wrong and was told, "Well, the answer I was looking for was 'The Tower Case'." Shorty tried to argue his case but was shut down. The teacher told him he could've taken off two points but only took off one because he tried.

:eek: ?!?!?!?!?!?!

How on earth can a teacher deduct points for a correct answer. He should've given extra credit for that answer!

Anyway, I told Shorty that he was right to stand up for himself and speak to the teacher. It was clear to him and the teacher that he's probably too computer literate for a remidial 'essentials' class. Then, he let it go and sat back down at his desk. I decided to not pursue it any further. He did get a 49/50, is a good student and the score isn't going to hold him back. Also, he took care of it himself and is proud of being able to maturely discuss a disagreement. Hubby concured. I will, however, be keeping an eye on this teacher. Yesterday, Shorty just completed the 20 lesson keyboarding program while the rest of the class is still hovering around lessons 8, 9 or 10. It's a self guided program as the teacher, according to Shorty, just sits at his desk playing around on his own computer. He asked for extra credit work or the next lesson to begin and the teacher told him to just use the next couple of weeks as "free time".

Wowzie- I guess it means you've been away too long when you don't even recognize the site. I was going to try to catch up, but there are waaaay too many posts to read.
