Thanks, GaMom - you're right. I need to get over myself and just get used to being an alien! And it isn't just Southern towns either. It's small towns everywhere. I remember whenever we went to see my grandparents I would giggle because grown ups called my dad Ricky like he was a little kid.

When you move to a small-ish town in the south and you aren't related to anyone around or you don't coach football, you may as well have come from Mars! It is a whole nother world down here (said with a twang!!) We love to gossip about the new folk--it keeps our minds off our crazy families. I joke about it, but it's the truth. I come from a town of 2 red lights. I'm still Danny's daughter, the one who shacked up with that Florida boy. They forget that we did get married--9 years ago, and that I have my OWN name!

Maybe I should do like you and just show up to help the teachers. It's kinda weird here. Not to tell too much, or to seem snooty, but hubby is kind of a big deal at the major employer in town. Every move I make around town is scrutinized. It's a lot of pressure and I feel like I'm in a fish bowl. I usually don't let things like this bother me. I certainly don't let what hubby does define me or assume that his level of importance at work has anything to do with me and my interactions with the community. But it seems so oddly different here. I should do what I've always done - be myself - and let the nosey parkers draw their own conclusions. I'm so unpretentious. I wasn't born a princess and definitely remember my roots. But people here seem to be trying to make more out of things than is really there.
Oh well, enough Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy for one night (ala SNL!). I'm off to bed....
