Hey vol, you might want to check out some of the places(like Fatheads.com) that sell those huge vinyl wall "clings". It probably wouldn't be much more than the cost of hiring an artist to paint a pirate and if your son ever wants to remove it, peeling it off is simpler than painting over it.
Sounds like my project! Son's room is going RED... with a bold black stripe, school colors. He is huge in sports and band. Mother-in-law gave him for Christmas a huge wall display of musical notes (also black in color). It will make such a statement! I am going to talk to a co-worker of my mother-in-law's and see if he will come in a stencil a line from a school cheer. "Who rocks the house" on one wall and on another "The pirates rock the house!". Would also love to hire the high school art teacher to come in and paint a pirate on his wall.
Things are actually kind of quiet right now, so I'm having a little fun planning some redecorating in the house. My son's room is on the schedule for this summer and he and I came up with some really fun stuff the other day like an entire wall dedicated to his favorite sports and teams. Friday I found the perfect pale grey to paint the walls(it matches well with every sports team's colors) and some great metal sculptures of a baseball player and two basketball players. He loves those! I'm looking for bargains, so I can do the room for less than $500. I think that's a show on HGTV......
D, what will you do with yourself?! I know I thought I'd be bored(and my house would be cleaner), but I quickly found other things to do, or should I say other things found me....
That's funny Silver -- and true--I used to not get the boys to even try the veggies in the chicken soup but now I just put it down and they seem to work through it (I do see some stray peas occassionally. But I do probably have the only kids in the universe that will get up and heat up left over lamb in the morning (even I have trouble with that).
Told the crew I'm not running for Pres next year. I also have it in our newsletter so we can start the nomination process. Weird...but we'll get through it.
