Will you be running for office this year?

Probably not. I went thru the whole cycle of living and breathing PTO in elementary school for a few years, but then scaled down, and am "just a volunteer" this year for the first time in about 6 years. Not even on that board.

In middle school, I'm PTO secretary. But it's a whole different world - much less activity. I'll help next year, but I really don't want to be an officer. I'll probably focus more on my children's specific activity areas (athletics, cheerleading, extracurricular sports).

Library mom, let me encourage you. I work 45 hours per week and have 3 boys, 2, 8 and 12. You can do it.
I have been so blessed this year as co-president. I cannot be at the school during the day, but she can. Sometimes I run in before school (about 7 am when I take DS8 to b4 school care) and have the janitor open a building if I need it.I also run over at lunch sometimes to pick up the mail.
We communicate ALOT via email. Next year, I am going to try to get more committee chair people and someone to help with phone calls.
I don't let lack of help stress me out either. We wanted to do a movie night this year, but no one would step up to help with the showing of the movie (equipment, etc.) so we didn't do it. No skin off my nose. Maybe next year someone will step up.

Good Luck to you Lynn. Don't overload yourself (NO should be in your vocabulary) and delegate is a good word to know also. If there is something that you want to do but it can't be done well...it's better to not do it at all. And have FUN!!!! You'll do super!!!

I've been the Secretary for this year and Voting Tonight, I should become President next year. I have so many ideas. Thanks to all here. I'm really excited about this. Our current President has been in her position for 5 years and she is great. I hope I can do as good a job as she has done.

An all parent school board is an interesting concept. I know that's one of the main criticism I hear of our school board--these people don't even have kids in school. In recent years we have finally had some with middle school and high school age children take seats, but we tend to see them forget about elementary issues. You know maybe we should take this topic to another area and get it going. Tim???

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

mykidsmom-

Would you please tell us more about the parent board? My school wants to do that, the school I was at did something similar and it didn't work. I need fresh ideas on how to approach this subject.
