jbirwin - are you trying to sell the Pier 39 package you got? we are about 60 miles from there - would love it if you could pass it on to us to use as a silent auction or raffle item. I am doing sober grad night 2012 - with our spaghetti dinner scheduled for next march. working on getting prizes for 300 seniors and items for auction/raffle.,
thank you!

Wow! We held our event this past weekend (10/15/11) and it was GREAT! We brought in about $45,000--we still have to do a few calculations but this is a pretty close estimate!!

One thing I definately noticed was that the vacation packages that were within driving distance seemed to bring us the best return. I simply pulled out a map and looked around at other cities, towns, and community within our state and neighboring states and focused on one destination at a time. Once I got a hotel, and attractions lined up, the rest fell into place. I have to admit I learned a lot about the history of the State of Colorado which helped me tailor some of the travel packages to fit different personalities.... for example, I did a ski package, a haunted package, a mining package, an performing arts package, an old west package, etc....

This list has been a great resource, however; instead of sending to the suggested national name brand companies, I used it to help with "thinking outside the box" and sent to more local vendors that dealt in the same types of items--I really think it paid off, as our previous events averaged around $40,000 and considering the economy, I feel this years was a HUGE success.

My suggestion, utilize the web, find a location then search for attractions--it isn't that hard or time consuming--before mailing a request, give them a call and get a feel for whether they are generous or not, you can tell a lot just by talking with them. (and this saves postage as well)

Good luck my friends

I am new to this and need some advise. Our event is at the end of March. Should I wait until the first of the year to request donations? I wasn't sure if most companies donation budget would start over then. Thanks!
