Question: Treasurer and book-keeping

Are there any legal reasons why the book keeping side of being a treasuer should reside with the school office by a non PTA member? Our school office wants the bookkeeping side to live with the office manager and the Treasurer to audit them monthly and present to the PTA.

You should probably check that out with a lawyer. But typically, a treasurer of the PTO is a member. Do your bylaws refer to who can hold office and where the records are kept? Some schools do choose to keep the past records in the school officer or library just so they are accessible if anyone wants to see them. Our Treasurer's Toolkit is a great resource. As a Plus member it is one of the benefits but can be purchased from the PTO Store.
