What we hear is that many groups carry over enough funds to start-up the following school year. So, if you can determine what your expenses will be -- any welcome back parties, Boo-Hoo breakfasts, mailings to families -- then set that amount to leave in the account. Some schools have big expenses right out of the gate because of things like early field trips, so they account for those costs as well. The key is to try to set aside funds so you don't have to start the school year with a fundraiser. Sometimes, that can be off-putting to families.
