Question: Are there any rules on who can be a member of the PTO

Does a PTO member have to be a parent or teacher? For example, can a neighbor down the street volunteer their time to a school's PTO?

The PTOs I've been in required a person to be a parent/guardian of a child at the school, or a staff member, in order to be a voting member. But there's nothing to prevent someone from volunteering to help.

I would check the bylaws, ours do not require it to be a parent or a teacher, community members are welcome to be on our PTO boards and we actually welcome the idea and have some that are community members and do not have students in the schools.
