Elementary Yearbook

15 years 7 months ago #145061 by Mrs.Christie
I am also in Washington, but in Vancouver.

The elementary school my son attends does do a yearbook. I was shocked when I first heard about it. I did purchase one for him though since the cost was reasonable at $10.00 preorder or $12.00 non preorder.

Many times the company who takes your school pictures will also offer the service of putting together a yearbook. You do a lot of the leg work, but the students pictures are included by class and it does look pretty good. (OK, word of advice - a school I teach at used "Lifetouch" this year, and they weren't happy with the service or the quality.)

My daughter has hers from K-8 at our school. And they look soooo nice!

We give each child a free yearbook each year now for at least 10 years. I personally have either done it myself or helped for about 6 of those years. I think the kids really enjoy them. Our 4-8 grade book is lenghthy at almost 100 pages. The primary school is about 70 pages. We do it digitally. We have used 2 different companies through the years.... taylor publishing and school annual. The quality is great digitally and the online program is great too. user friendly.
It is a wonderful thing that our PTO can pay for it for each child.

We have been using school annual for the last 5-6 years. I am trying to get everyone to go Digital to make things a little easier. Any information that you could give would be greatly appreciated.

I have been doing our school's elementary yearbook for the past three years and for us it has been very successful! We have about 750 students at our K-6th school, and we have presold 630 this year. I'm confident that the extras we order will sell out fast.

Info about ours: They cost $12 in the fall, and $14 in the spring. Depending on our volume, they cost us $9-$10. But that's not all... we also sell ad space which we make about $1500 more on. Our book is 96 pages, with 8 pages of color. The reason the printing costs more for us than maybe some others, is that we take it to a very high quality printer... not a digital printer. We also have the book "perfect bound", not stapled.

I design our book digitally which really makes the quality so much better. I agree... most elementary yearbooks are AWEFUL!

Most of the schools in our area have yearbooks. They are not so huge and expensive as the high school yearbooks, so I really don't think that having yearbooks throughout a child's school years takes anything away from their senior book. Just my opinion. At our school the yearbooks are anxiously anticipated at the end of the year. We have an art contest for the cover, and I include all of the entries as artwork inside the book, so no one is left out.

If anyone would like any help, please ask anything... I've really learned so much and would love to share.
