NewTreasurer, I was not on the yearbook committee. As president I, of course, had a good overview of the committees and how they work but not really the details. The yearbook committee had a subcommittee strictly for selling ad space. We did offer several different sizes from business card to full page.

I'm sorry I'm not much more help than that. Hopefully others will chime in with some helpful advice.

CrewChief - You said "The students still recieve an actual book. It costs a bit more but we only had to transfer 50 cents on to the families thanks to advertisers making up for the rest of the costs."

As a 2nd-yr yearbook committee chairperson, we are looking into including ads in our yearbook as a way to defray rising costs. Can you tell me how you handle it? Do you need a contract with the businesses placing the ads? We're thinking of offering business card-sized ads for parents with home businesses at a discounted rate, & then charging outside businesses a higher amount. We're also trying to come up with fair prices on a sliding scale, depending on what size ad they want. Can you give me examples of what you charge?

I'd really appreciate any help you or anyone else can give. It sounds like a good idea, but we're not sure how to get started. Thank you!

To all who are concerned, I work for a publishing company, and we specialize in printing yearbooks, and would be more than happy to help anyone in anyway we can. I would be more than happy to help design your elementary yearbooks, and we also do print them. My last school just switched over to "digital" processing for the 05/06 yearbook. It was mandated by the photographer. For the previous two years we had a choice as he switched over to the new equipment.

The students still recieve an actual book. It costs a bit more but we only had to transfer 50 cents on to the families thanks to advertisers making up for the rest of the costs.

It does affect the way your yearbook committee manages their work but the photographer/company should help them with the transition.

I think the big difference would be paper .vs CD costs

With digital better image quality and other than space on CD more pages could be added, plus no printing costs

With paper - you biggest cost is printing and images arent of as high quality, CD cost and burning is enormously cheaper

Design amd layout would be the same-- most publishing software can be used to either make digital or paper copies

Can someone please explain the benefit of a "digital yearbook"?
Is it as opposed to analog/ printed pictures on paper? This is my first year too and I'm lost.
