The ULTIMATE Donation List

13 years 1 month ago #156536 by rm9116
Received package from Rapala with fishing tools and magnetic holder. Had contacted them because we typically have a guided fishing tour donated and I figured we'd package whatever we received with the trip. How to submit a request is on their website (rapala.com). The package came in 3 weeks or less.

We have a parent who conducts training for the local carpenters' union. If we give him a bit of notice, he's always willing to donate beautiful, handcrafted items for our auctions. If you have a local union, you might want to see whether they would be willing to donate. He's made Adirondack chairs for both our fall and spring auctions (with side tables) and typically does a child-size picnic table for the fall. He's also making a pie safe for us for spring, and we plan to have the early education kids make handprints on it and then he'll finish it for us.

Several of our middle schoolers are interested in learning about money and investments. One of our auction items is a 2 session class for kids with a local stock broker, along with a few free trades per person attending the class. Haven't finalized exactly how many slots will be in the class and how many trades per person he is willing to donate.

Thanks to this board for many ideas so far. Would be interested in hearing about multi-slot events or training classes with which you've had good results.

Anne, regarding Stampin' Up. Yes, resubmit your request--I had to and I received a response within 24 hours and the products within a week.

We have a scholastic Warehouse near us and just made a phone call. They were very happy to donate a box of books, but when we picked them up they wheeled out 6 and said that other organizations had requested donations and had not picked them up, and asked if we could use them!

Regarding Taylor Swift-we purchased them ($150 approx) and blitzed them unannounced for $5 for one raffle ticket or 3 for $10 (a lot of the people in our organization do not have tons of money so that is why we do it on the cheap), but we ended up making over $300 in less than 10 min on the blitz. Depending on what your organization is and how many people are attending I think you can charge more for the raffle tickets.

To Mustang Mom

The Air Tran tickets were a big success, Keurig brought in $130.00, Stampin Up! I split into 2 baskets we didn't get as much money as we would have liked, but it still went well.

We contacted our local Scholastic Warehouse for some book donations, and they told us they would donate a box of books their choice. When we went to pick them up we received 6 boxes! Multiple copies of books and gifts for all ages. We put together some Mega Book Baskets and those went really well. Twighlight one, younger girls and boys baskets.

Other things that went well for us were overnight hotel stays, and we had a blitz for 2 Taylor Swift tickets.

Hope this helps!

This is such a helpful list :)

Just wanted to add that an author previously listed can NO longer do donations, Lois Lowry.
