Question: Counting Money

Does anyone have a protocol for counting money? Two pto people? A parent and a pto person? A staff and a pto person. Please help. We have many people involved in many different events and I know there should be two people counting the money, but who. Is it okay for it to be a parent? A staff member? I'm confused.

At our school we have a Treasurer and an Assistant Treasurer for that very reason. The assistant usually serves in that capacity only - the second counter.

At our school the person who ran the fundraiser along with an assistant/parent volunteer count the money and fill out an accounting sheet, sign it, seal everything up and give it to the treasurer who makes the deposit.
