Question: What happens is no one steps up to be president?

Two of our school PTOs have been unable to find presidents. We have tried everything. What happens if we get to the end of the school year and no one steps up? Our by-laws do not permit another term by the incumbents and the vice presidents do not want to move up.

Hi there!
For starters, you are the only group that has this question, so hope that makes you feel a little better! A few things: Your group can consider updating the bylaws so there is more flexibility. That's a process that may take a little while in that changes are proposed to the group, voted on, and then made to the bylaws. You may need to hold an election at the start of the next school year. In the meantime, you can try to get by with volunteers fulfilling the basic duties of the president and treasurer. Your current situation should not cause your group to cease operating.
